IDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Mack Trucks announced the release of its new mDrive HD 13- and 14-speed models during the Work Truck Show in Indianapolis, Ind. March 2.

The new offerings enhance the company’s mDrive HD automated manual transmission line, with the 13-speed option providing a low reduction gear ratio for easier starting on steep grades or when hauling a heavy load. The 14-speed is only available in an overdrive configuration and gives drivers a second ultra-low-speed gear for curb pouring applications or low-speed, heavy-hauling manoeuvring.

“You can use the mDrive in almost every construction application that is out there,” said Stu Russoli, Mack highway and powertrain products marketing manager.

Mack’s vice-president of marketing John Walsh said they launched the mDrive in response to customers wanting a truck that could stand up to tough vocational applications.

“Now, with the mDrive HD 13- and 14-speeds, we’re taking the next step and combining low-speed capabilities with the performance and productivity benefits of our ground-breaking AMT,” he said.

Russoli highlighted several key features and updates to the new 13- and 14-speed mDrive models, including multi-speed reverse gear ratios, updated PTO design and controls, extended front section for low reduction forward and multi-speed reverse gears, new shift fork and increased brake friction torque.

The new mDrive HD 13- and 14-speeds will be available on Mack’s Pinnacle, Granite and Titan trucks, with Pinnacle continuing to offer the 12-speed direct and OD.

“The mDrive HD is just as at home on the highway as it is on the job site,” said Russoli. “Highway customers with challenging loads will appreciate the extra flexibility provided by the low reduction gear ratios.”

Mack also announced the release of ClearTech One, its single package exhaust aftertreatment system.

“ClearTech One is just another example of Mack’s commitment to application excellence,” said Walsh. “Our customers demand versatility from their trucks so they can successfully get the job done, no matter the task. Mack ClearTech One offers our customers a functional design, as well as another EATS option, enabling more packaging space for equipment needs while also increasing maneuverability of the vehicle.”

Mack says ClearTech One is more compact than a two-component system, and saves 17 pounds and 11 inches of frame space.

“It’s much more compact in its spacing and design,” said Curtis Dorwart, vocational marketing manager for Mack. “Mack customers now have the opportunity to specify the design of the EATS, which better enables them to adapt the chassis to their application’s unique needs.”

Both the new mDrive HD 13- and 14-speeds and ClearTech One aftermarket will be available for purchase this coming August.
