LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Velociti Inc. announced what it said is the trucking industry’s first technology maintenance program to include proactive system health monitoring, VelociCare.
Company president Deryk Powell unveiled the new program during the American Trucking Associations’ Management Conference and Exhibition Oct. 2, saying the biggest issue in the trucking industry is the massive adoption of on-board technology, which is what VelociCare is intended to do.
“This is desperately needed in the trucking industry,” Powell said, adding that those who are on top of the electronic logging device (ELD) mandate know that it is badly needed and those who are not ‘don’t know what is about to hit them.’
With a flat monthly subscription, VelociCare has many features, including program and project management, system health monitoring, troubleshooting by Velociti’s tech support call center, system upgrades, fleet surveys and inventory management.
The average pricing for a fleet with a subscription for VelociCare ranges from $3 to $6 per unit per month for all included turn-key services.
Powell said fleets and the industry as a whole are not prepared for the tsunami of regulations coming down the pike, and that Velociti has been working for years on a program to help remedy this concern.
“With the ELD mandate and the rapid growth of the connected vehicle, prioritized maintenance of on-board technology is essential,” said Powell. “The consequences of non-functioning equipment is far worse than just not meeting ROI projections.”
Powell added that when it comes to vehicle-to-vehicle communication, those in the industry are barely scratching the surface of what can be done.
“The need to maintain and support on-board technologies is often underestimated,” Powell said. “A reactive approach to technology support leads to increased downtime while a proactive, preventive approach can assure that not only benefits are realized, but that safety and compliance requirements are met as well. As trucking increases its use of technology, VelociCare makes it easier to budget and plan for the support, maintenance and repairs that are a necessary part of technology use.”
Powell added that Velociti works with approximately a dozen partners in Canada, along with around 15 technicians who are trained on VelociCare.
