WINTER SURVIVAL KITS: WHAT’S IN YOURS? TELL US AND WIN

From assistant editor Sonia Straface comes this interesting first-hand account of a J.G. Drapeau Transport driver who found himself stranded in upstate New York this week after a record snowfall hit the region.

Sonia tells the story of Brian Foster, who thanks to the kindness of local residents was able to seek shelter for part of the storm in their home. However, when he tried to soldier on, he found himself stuck in a Tim Horton’s parking lot, the restaurant closed and his own supplies in the truck quickly dwindling. He was down to his last bottle of water when the roads were cleared enough for him to venture home. I know he wasn’t the only one with such an experience. Overhead shots of the snowstorm showed other Canadian trucks partially buried in snow. If you were there, please let us know.

Brian’s is quite the story, and I won’t repeat it here, since you can read it at the link above. But it’s been a while since we had a good old-fashioned Hooked Up contest, so why don’t we do that? I want to know what’s in your winter survival kit. What supplies do you take with you on the road during the winter to help you survive in relative comfort if you should become stranded? The most complete or interesting list will be published in a future edition of Hooked Up as well as in the January issue of Truck News. Winner gets a Tim Horton’s gift card, so they can enjoy a few warm beverages on us.
