Thieves active during Holiday season

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Information collected by CargoNet found that there were 112 incidents of stolen freight reported in Canada and the U.S. between Dec. 23 and Jan. 2 from the years 2012 to 2015.

The data comes out just as the Holiday season arrives, which is an active time for thieves, as they target truck stops (20 thefts), warehouses (17 thefts) and parking lots (15 thefts).

The most activity was found to be in Texas and Georgia, where there were 20 incidents in each state.

Thieves stole 58 trailers and 47 semi-tractors, with food and beverage, particularly meat, by far the most common commodity with 23 total incidents.
