Annual Teddy Bear Convoy set for June 5

by Truck News

ST. JOHN’S, Nfld. —  The Just For Kids Transportation Group is once again hosting the annual Teddy Bear Convoy in support of the Janeway Children’s Hospital Foundation.

The Janeway Children’s Hospital is the only children’s hospital in Newfoundland & Labrador and each year Just For Kids –  comprised of  a number of volunteers from the transport industry in Newfoundland & Labrador – sets the date of the convoy to coincide with the annual Janeway Telethon. Layout 1

Last year both events raised over $40,000 with more than 75 trucks participating. Organizers say the goal this year is to exceed $40,000 and increase the number of trucks participating. Over the last decade, the convoy has contributed $300,000 to Janeway.

The convoy starts at 8:30 a.m. on June 5 with a meet and greet at City Tire’s Retread Plant on the TCH. Trucks will depart from there, as a convoy, and circle the hospital in view of the children. The event will also have a ceremonial cheque presentation to the hospital, as well as a barbecue social sponsored by Marine Atlantic.

Donations can come from individuals or companies, but must be recorded on a pledge sheet. You can contact Jocelyn Miller at 722-1991 or e-mail her at auto@eastcantrans.com for more information.Donations and pledge sheets for those participating in the convoy can be submitted to the Just For Kids Transportation Group at City Tire on June 5 before the convoy starts.

As an added incentive, the Just For Kids Transportation Group will award two tickets for the Beach Boys Concert at Mile One Stadium, to the person who collects the most money. To be eligible, your pledges and money must be collected and recorded on our Teddy Bear Convoy Pledge Sheet and submitted on or before June 5.
